El Corte Ingles

El Corte Ingles, is the big department store in Palma, there is two, the small and more like a boutique, in street Jaime III and the big one in C/Aragon, some people say that more tourist visit el corte ingles than the cathedral, but who knows, the fact is that there you can find almost everything and, at a reasonable price.

City Sightseeing bus

Palma is a city, that is best visited walking, unlike other cities like Barcelona, in Palma all interesting stuff is within walking distance also they are areas where cars, and of course buses can´t go though, so to ride in the touristic bus here in Palma is not very good idea. You have to pay arround 14 euros, and the only thing nice that you are not going to see is Castle of Bellver.

Palau March Museum

This palace, once home of the biggest banker of the island (still is property of this family) is now a museum. But what is most impressive on this museum, are not the pieces inside, or the building, is the great view over the city that you will get when you enter in the house, worth paying the price of the entrance

Can Oleza

The courtyard of Can Oleza is one of the best kept in the city, the house also is very well kept. This house is still in the hands of the family that built it, in the renaissance, whereas you can´t make a visit inside the house (is still this family´s house) you will make a good picture. If you want so see how a house like that is inside, you have to keep going in that street and then turn left to Almudaina street, then left, you will find Can Marques is the only nice house in Palma, that can be visited, now is a museum

Can Oleza in the past.
This is and old print of Can Oleza, many visitors that have been in the island have made paintings, prints and oil paintings.
On Friday 23 of March 2007 Can Oleza there was a rumor on the city that the house had been sold to the businessman Vicente Grande, the owner of the Mallorca football team. Where as, there is many palaces in Palma, like this one, this one was considered a symbol for the mallorcan nobility the building was sold for 19.5 million euros. That day is a sad day for the neibourhood and for the city.

More

It happened the same with Bran Castle (Dracula Castle). Was property of the Habsburg Family but they sold it to an owner of a footbal team.

At the moment is not sure if the house at the end will end up in the hands of the actual family or will be sold. It is very uncertain. What is known for sure is that this house is part of the history of the city

The Cathedral of Palma is one of the best and most known monuments of Palma well worth a visit, just the local people of Mallorca do not have to pay, everybody else has to pay the nice thing about it, is that you have to pay but you can walk arround all the time you want, and make all the pictures you want, if you do not want to pay, or if you go when there is no tourist visit, you can go to the cathedral when there is mass, you will not have to pay at all but also you will not be able to wander arround because if you do somebody will tell you that you can´t do that. In the past before the cristian conquest the cathedral was an old mosk

At the end of Carrer Zanglada, they are located the bischop´s garden, sometimes are opened and some times are closed, but if they are opened, they are a perfect spot to have a rest, because really there you can hear nothing, you are in one of the most centric locations of the city, but is so silent.

Ca la Torre

It is a good idea to get lost in the center of Palma, here we will have the chance to see many mansions. This one in the picture is Ca la torre, one of the nicest houses of Palma. At its time when it was build was house of a Marquis, but arround twenty years ago was sold to the architects of Palma, anyway still now you can enter the patio

Cloister of Sant Francesc

The cloister of Sant Francesc is the nicest cloister in Palma, recently restored, when you do the visit, you can see the cloister and the church of Sant Francesc, the visit will not take you long time but you have to see it, admision cost one euro. It is a little bit out of the path and a little less touristic, but you have to look well when is open, because most of the time is closed.
One of the kings of Mallorca, the first son of James II, gave up his right to be a king to become a monk of Sant Francesc. Another daughte of James II, Sancha queen of Napels, Sicily and Jerusalem.

Church of Sant Francesc
Sancha, made sure that the fanciscan order could install in Jerusalem and in Belen in the wholy places, and made sure that those monks always had money, so that they could prevail as they have done till the day of today there, so now in the headquarters of the franciscan order in Jerusalem there is a painting of the queen Sancha
In the past, before the christian conquest, Sant Francesc was an old mosq
The Complex of Sant Francesc we know today, is one third of what it was in the past. Due to a law called Desamortizacion two of the three cloisers were taken to the monks.

Cloister Of the Right, it used to be used as the prison of the city, this are the rest of the cloister.

Back Cloister, also taken away

Arab Baths

The arab baths are the only remains of medina mayurca, that was the name that palma had in the arab times. In 1229 the city was taken by the cristians and they destroyed everything, only this was left. The arab baths are small, but worth the visit, is one of the monuments more visited of Palma, the arab baths are located in a very nice malloquin garden, there you will be able to sit for a while and rest a little bit. Is open every day of the year.
